Many non-branded and branded stores are present. Al Fanar Mall, Salmiya (Downtown Area), Mubarak Al Salem St.Even though new branded and non-branded stores openned here, the old feel is still there. Before the pearl market crashed, pearls and other traditional items were sold here. It is the oldest shopping complex in Salmiya. Old Salmiya Center (Old Downtown), Mubarak Al Salem St.It is nice to walk along the coastline, beware of glass pieces and other harmful things that can hurt your foot, especially on Salmiya Beach. On Thursday, the center is open till 10 PM. On Friday the center is open from 2 PM to 10 PM. There is an IMAX 2D screen,IMAX 3D, Aquarium, Discovery Place.Prices are 2.5, 3.5, 3.5, 2 KD Respectively for regular adult priced ticket. Many drivers may try to demand higher fares especially if the printed fare in the car is partially or completely destroyed.īuses can be found. They have a printed fee on the inside of the taxi with the fares fixed. No other taxi can take you out of the airport. Airport taxis usually take you to/from the airport. Orange taxis are which were previously orange and now white are equally common. These taxi drivers are fairly nice and a little more costly than orange taxis. Call taxis which are white coloured taxis are most common and found in town.
Boats can be taken to travel to/from islands. One can borrow a boat to spend time on the Arabian gulf. The nearest airport is Kuwait International Airport(See Kuwait for more info). There are buses from GCC countries to Kuwait City. Al-Jahra Road (80) can be taken from Iraq to reach Jahra, from there to Salmiya. You can take Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Road (5th ring road) which begins from Jahra and ends at Salmiya. It is a very beautiful road and it runs along the coastline. One can take the Arabian Gulf Road (25) from Kuwait City to Salmiya. Today, Salmiya is a beautiful city along the coastline with it's beaches and malls. This resulted in a real estate boom, forcing many expats to the inner parts of the city away from the coast. After the war many new modern high rise buildings rose in Salmiya, especially near the coast. The Iraqis destroyed Salmiya during the Gulf War. It was a very important town in the 1960's for expats and many have lived here.
